They said to each other “Lets build for ourselves a city and tower. And let's make the top of the tower reach high into the sky to show how wonderful we are. We will become famous. If we do this, we will not be scattered over all the earth." These proud people thought they were greater than God.
But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the people had built.
God was not happy and mixed up their language.
So they stopped building the tower, because they were able to understand each other.God scattered them all over the earth. 처음에 온 세상은 한 가지 언어를 썼습니다. 모든 사람들은 똑같은 말을 사용했습니다. 그들은 서로에게 말했습니다.
“성과 탑을 세우자 그리고 우리가 얼마나 대단한지 보여주기 위해 그 탑의 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿게 만들자. 우리는 유명하게 될 것이다.
우리가 이렇게 한다면 우리는 온 세상에 흩어지지 않게 될 것이다."이 교만한 사람들은 그들이 하나님 보다 더 위대하다고 생각했습니다.
그러나 하나님께서는 그들이 세운 성과 탑을 보시려고 내려오셨습니다.
하나님은 기뻐하지 않으셨고 그들의 언어를 완전히 뒤섞어 놓으셨습니다.
그들은 서로 이해 할 수 없게 되었기 때문에 탑을 세우는 것을 그만두었습니다.
